Guest post by Björn Varnestig, CEO, Flemingsberg Science
During a period of three years, we let a group of experienced business developers (we call them business architects) walk the corridors of the Karolinska University Hospital, talking to people about the problems, needs and opportunities that they could see in their daily work. From these meetings hundreds of new business embryos arose. About thirty of them were further developed into new products and, in some cases, new companies, now moving ahead on their own momentum.
So the answer to the initial question is yes, it is possible to create new business out of clinical needs. But you need business competence on board from start, and a strong focus on value creation and customers.
We see a great potential to develop this model further, together with our friends at private and public business support organizations, thereby helping to fill all the new fantastic buildings being erected in Flemingsberg with entrepreneurs and companies.
